What we collect, and why

  • When you sign up or fill in a form. Our forms run on Jotform. We keep what you type - for example your name and email - so we can send you the newsletter, answer your question, or follow up on your request. Questions marked optional, like your ZIP code or age group, are always optional.
  • Polls. Poll answers are anonymous. We only count them, for example how many readers in each town answered.
  • Email. The newsletter is sent through our email platform, which records whether an email was delivered, opened, or a link was clicked. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away.
  • This website. We use Google Analytics, which uses cookies, to see which pages and articles people read, how long they stay, and roughly where they are (city, never street or ZIP). It does not tell us your name or email. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Facebook and Instagram. We use the Meta Pixel, which uses cookies, to count visits to this site and newsletter sign-ups, and to help Facebook and Instagram show our ads to people likely to be interested, including people who have visited this site. Meta may connect this to a Facebook or Instagram account you already have. You can change the ads Meta shows you in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
  • Short links and QR codes. Some links in the magazine are Bitly links, which count clicks and the country they came from.
